The aim of the Keith Roget Memorial National Parks Award is to encourage portable operation in Victoria’s 45 National Parks.
The Award commenced around 1970 and was known as the Victorian National Parks Award by the then WIA Victorian Division as a way of promoting mobile and portable operation. At that time there were only 20 National Parks declared. Today, there are 45 different Victorian National Parks.
A driving force behind this award was the late Keith Roget, who had served on the WIA Victorian Division Council. Keith’s widow agreed in the 1980s that it was fitting that the award be renamed in his memory and to honour his contribution.
The award is made available by Amateur Radio Victoria and the rules can be downloaded from the ARV awards page. Tony, VK3VTH, is the Manager of this award.
I am currently the only amateur to have activated all 45 Victorian National Parks and I have published a map showing the locations I worked each park from.
