Keith Roget Memorial National Parks Award – update # 7

After making no contacts last Sunday in the Yarra Ranges National Park, this week I decided to try a different location and use the bigger rig.

I chose the Fernshaw Picnic Ground, about 70 km from Melbourne to set up a 20m half wave inverted Vee in the trees above the car park.

I got the lead rope in the tree with my first throw thanks to my new 16 oz throw bag and glove. It is much easier to wear a glove than worry about rope burn.

I was using the FT757 and called CQ for about 15 minutes with no reply. I then tuned around and heard R1ANC calling CQ from Antarctica.

We exchanged signal reports and equipment types and then signed so R1ANC could chase some more DX.

I can now update my National Park map again.
