VK6SAA – 14th Australian Venture

For the past 2 weeks I have been away at the 14th Australian Venture where VK6SAA was operating.
The VK6SAA station operated for five days and made over 100 contacts despite the poor HF propagation.
Bob Bristow, VK6POP, and his team had assembled a very good station covering 80m, 40m, 20m, 15m, 10m and 2m FM as well as Echolink and UHF CB.
The antennas for HF were simple single band wire dipoles running between trees at about 35 feet above the ground.
There was considerable interest in amateur radio from Venturers and Leaders visiting the shack, including interest in the forthcoming Victorian radio camp.
I was fortunate enough to have been able to ‘play radio’ for most of my non-activity hours and enjoyed speaking to many VK amateurs about the camp and the activities that the Venturers were undertaking.
