Scouthike 2009

Next weekend sees the running of the annual Scouthike activity. Scouthike is the name given to the Annual hiking event organized by Yarra Valley Region for Scouts from all over the State. It is held early in November each year and utilizes three basic State Forest areas, rotating annually.

Well, it did rotate annually but this year, and probably 2010 as well, we are in the Tallarook forest again. This is due to the other two forest areas, Tallangi and Mt Disappointment, being extensively damaged by the Black Saturday bush fires.

Along with Ashley, VK3FASH, I will again be setting up a portable station to provide welfare and safety communications for the scouts.

We will be using the call sign VK3SBH and will be on HF around 14.190 MHz during the day and 40m & 80m at night. Our HF net frequency will be either 3.590 or 3.650 MHz. There will be seven other stations in the net during the weekend.

We will also have 2m via the SRESU portable repeater VK3RSR and UHF CB for local communications.

We are also hoping to work the Easter Island DXpedition XR0Y during the weekend on 20m and 40m.
